Treatment during COVID-19-UPDATE by Alexandra Bowring

The introduction of universal telehealth means that all Australians will have access to psychological support during the coronavirus. Please refer to the APS website for further information www.psychology.org.au.

This is understandably an incredibly stressful and challenging time. I urge you to keep connected to loved ones and continue your sessions via a platform that works best for you. Remember, research shows connecting to others is one of the biggest buffers to mental health along with exercise, nutrition and sleep.

Please consider what platform will work best for you moving forward with regard to continuing your treatment. I have/do use videoconference technology with both individuals and couples and have found it to be a very effective counselling option.  Of course, telephone sessions are also an option for those of you more comfortable with this mode of communication. I hope you will find some comfort in knowing that your therapy can continue, and that I am here to provide ongoing, accessible support.

I’ve included a link below that outlines tips for coping with coronavirus anxiety released by the APS, along with a list of crisis/support numbers.  Although, these are understandably anxious times it is important to remember that this global pandemic will pass and that you are not alone.

Warmest regards,

Alexandra
